Peter Bell is the co-founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of StorageNetworks, Inc., (NASDAQ: STOR) the world's leading provider of data storage management services. Bell co-founded StorageNetworks in August 1998 along with the company's Chief Technology Officer, William Miller, and was elected Chairman in January 2000. The spark of inspiration that would eventually lead to StorageNetworks took place in the summer of 1997 when Bell met Miller and the two began talking about the storage business and the needs of enterprise IT organizations. In the course of a conversation between Bell and Miller about what customers really desired, a phone jack was held up and Miller declared, "companies just want to plug-in."

Eventually, both Bell and Miller decided to set out on their own. They locked themselves in Bell's basement and created the business plan that would bring with it a new era in data storage. The storage service provider, or SSP, concept was born and the dynamics of enterprise storage services began to evolve. After obtaining sufficient venture capital, Bell and Miller walked into the new offices of StorageNetworks. Under Bell's leadership, StorageNetworks has taken the idea of creating a market for data storage management services from vision to reality - resulting in the rapid construction of an entirely new $8 billion (forecast) industry segment now recognized worldwide as the storage services provider market.

Bell has crafted one of the industry's top management teams which has allowed the company to develop a strong leadership stance in software development, sales and marketing execution and network deployment, while maintaining a relentless focus on customer satisfaction. This leadership has enabled the company to deliver on its promise to simplify storage for the enterprise, while simultaneously building the necessary financial strength to drive growth and continue rapid technological innovation. Over the past two years, Bell has led the company's financing efforts and secured over $500 million of capital, including monies generated from the company's successful Initial Public Offering and Follow-Up Offering, completed in June and November of 2000 respectively.

Bell began his career in 1986 at EMC Corporation as a sales representative. During his tenure at EMC, Bell held management positions in marketing, operations and sales. He played a key role in building and managing EMC's Open Storage Group in 1994 which has became the major growth engine for EMC over the past 6 years. In 1996, Bell became Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at NetXchange Communications, Inc., a pioneer in the field of internet telephony software. In 1997, Bell joined the storage company Andataco, and led the company's worldwide sales organization.

Bell is a summa cum laude graduate with a BS from Boston College and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School. Bell is a member of the Board of Trustees of Boston College and is a member of the Technology Advisory Committee for Boston's Catholic Schools Foundation.
