Over the past 20 years, Larry Weber has provided counsel to a variety of clients on a broad range of issues and established a reputation for thoughtful, out of the box thinking. Larry is widely recognized as one of the industry's foremost visionaries in applying technology to the practice of public relations. In doing so, he transformed the industry's profile, enhancing its value and effectiveness in today's information-driven economy. Larry has applied this knowledge in counseling companies as diverse as Lotus Development and Marshalls, Verizon Wireless and America Online, helping each establish broad leadership positions in their respective marketplaces. Embracing Larry's vision of a 21st century public relations firm, The Interpublic Group (IPG) of Companies purchased The Weber Group, a specialized agency Larry founded in 1987. Under Larry's leadership, The Weber Group grew in just ten years to become one of the nation's largest and most established technology public relations firms. Larry was appointed chairman and CEO of the Weber Public Relations Worldwide in 1996 and built the organization into the ninth largest public relations firm in the world. In April 2000, Larry was named chairman and CEO of Interpublic's Allied Communications Group, which includes IPG's public relations, research & analysis, events, entertainment & sports management holdings. He is chartered with building a set of marketing services companies designed to meet the communications needs of 21st century organizations. In the fall of 2000, Larry engineered the merger of Weber's technology practice with Shandwick International's global organization to create Weber Shandwick Worldwide, the world's largest public relations firm. Larry serves as CEO of the new firm, while continuing in his Allied role. Identified as a visionary in the converging worlds of technology and communications, Larry serves on the board of several leading institutions and emerging organizations. He is founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Interactive Media Council (MIMC). He is also co-founder of The.Commonwealth, a united initiative to promote Massachusetts as the best place in the world for technology innovation and leadership. Larry also sits on the board of several Internet start-ups, including EchoMail, eMaven, and Firepond. In addition, Larry is a board member of the Museum of Science in Boston, an Overseer of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, a member of the Council on Competitiveness, a director of Port Financial Corp. and Cambridgeport Bank, and a board member of Technology Review, the Massachusetts's Institute of Technology's magazine of innovation. Larry holds a bachelor's degree from Denison University in Ohio, including a semester spent at the London School of Economics.
